Teaching/Directing
Welcome to my Teaching/ Directing page!
In addition to performing, a huge passion of mine is teaching and directing. I believe in the power of theatre whole heartedly. Being able to work with young actors, helping them discover their authenticity and full theatrical potential is truly a gift. I believe theatre has the power to motivate change and encourage us all to be better humans. Creating and fostering that positive space is my ultimate goal...and I think that's pretty cool.
In 2016, I started teaching and directing theatre in Northwood New Hampshire at Camp Yavneh, my home away from home. Growing up at Yavneh, I always wished we had a quality theatre program where children who loved the arts had somewhere to go instead of the side lines on the soccer field (me). So coming back to camp and being able to create some real theatre magic has been absolutely fabulous.
At Yavneh thus far, I have directed full scale productions of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat," "Really Rosie," "Cinderella," "Honk!," "Pippin," "James & The Giant Peach," and "Fiddler on the Roof." All productions at Yavneh are also choreographed, designed, and created (lights, props, costumes, etc.) by me. I put my absolute heart and soul into these shows and wouldn't have it any other way.
In 2023 and 2024 I had the privilege to direct and choreograph Schechter Boston's annual 8th Grade Musical ("Once Upon a Mattress" and "Hello, Dolly!"). Up next, I will be choreographing Abraham Heschel School's production of Frozen Jr this coming spring.
In addition, I also coach and teach privates. If Interested, please email me directly at jonathanwgomolka@gmail.com.
